TRANXITION UNVEILS PERSONALITY TRANXPORT PROFESSIONAL 2.0
TO POWER BUSINESS PC UPGRADES
PT Pro 2.0 Slashes Total Cost of Ownership by Preserving Investment
in PC Personality and Speeding the Migration Process
Beaverton, OR, September 25, 2000 - Tranxition Corporation, a provider of leading-edge PC migration solutions, today announced the commercial availability of Personality Tranxport™ Professional (PT Pro) 2.0. PT Pro 2.0 answers the vexing problem of personality transfer during the migration process. PT Pro transfers computer personality from one Windows platform or PC to another, resulting in dramatic cost reduction, increased productivity, and reduced migration risk. Version 2.0 features rules-based data migration and optimization, detailed migration control, and the deepest application support available-- powering hardware and software upgrades and preserving years of end user investment in their PCs.
PT Pro 2.0 provides IT professionals with the ability to create and manage comprehensive rules for data migration. This includes the ability to gather data files from anywhere on the system’s disk and redirect the files to a specific folder in the destination machine with the sub-directories left intact.
"PT Pro is the standard for user state migrations," said Ken Mackin, President and CEO, Tranxition. "Creating a common operating environment and implementing change control standards can be a huge disruption for IT departments and their end users. We bridge the IT department’s need for standards with the end users’ need to preserve their computers’ personalities. Tranxition takes the negative out of the standardized desktop."
PT Pro’s automated processes reduce the time and effort required to perform PC migrations. A typical migration can take as long as 6-8 hours to complete manually. Using PT Pro, a comprehensive migration can take as little as five minutes to an hour. PT Pro powers IT’s ability to better maintain and execute on best practices methods. According to industry analysts, user state migration can save as much as $200-$300 per PC. It is also a significant improvement over homegrown, script-based solutions.
"As standardized desktops become more prevalent, more companies will be looking to perform efficient migrations. Successful migration vendors will need to ensure comprehensive support of the leading desktop software applications—a market dominated by Microsoft applications and the Windows OS," said Kevin J. Knox, Research Director, Gartner Group. "Migration tools can have a dramatic impact on a company’s bottom line. Our research indicates that these tools, when used in conjunction with other deployment products, can save a typical 2,500-user enterprise as much as $309,000 per year."
PT Pro automatically locates, stores, and transfers end user documents, email, and personalized settings including: desktop configurations, network and Internet settings and accounts, service and protocol information, Internet favorites and bookmarks, email address books and inboxes, custom dictionaries, and thousands more. PT Pro is ideal for preserving PC personality while enabling businesses to exercise rational control of migration processes.
PT Pro 2.0 includes new and powerful support for all versions of Microsoft Exchange, ACT! 2000, Norton AntiVirus 2000, WinZip 8.0, and Netscape Navigator and Communicator 4.x. PT Pro 2.0 also includes enhanced support of Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.05, Adobe Acrobat 4.0 and the latest versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer. In addition to this new and improved cross OS application support, PT Pro continues to support both legacy and current versions Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Office 95, Microsoft Office 97, and Microsoft Office 2000 (including Service Pack 1).
"Our employees were not happy with the loss of their computers for extended periods of time every time we had to undertake a major systems upgrade," said Thane Terrill, Network Administrator, Bahá’í International. "PT Pro allowed us to reap the benefits of a standardized environment while preserving each user’s personalized settings. This makes our employees more efficient in their work and saves on the number of support calls we get."
New Features Include
- Mass Migration Rules Control: provides the ability to specify migration rules for an entire set of migrations, including rules for directory inclusion/exclusion, file type inclusion/exclusion, and limits on size. This allows users to save time and enforce policies simultaneously.
- User Files Selection Control: delivers the ability to quickly specify additional files and directories for inclusion/exclusion from a migration, enabling users to easily personalize the migration. This feature works in conjunction with mass migration rules so that policies are maintained.
- File Replacement Rules Control: enables PT Pro to be used to inject new files or updated files into an existing target system for backup and synchronization.
- Extended Application Support: PT Pro supports all versions of Microsoft Exchange as well as the ability to reconnect both the Exchange server and user name. ACT! 2000, Norton AntiVirus 2000, WinZip 8.0, and Netscape Navigator and Communicator 4.x are also supported. PT Pro 2.0 also includes enhanced support of Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.05, Adobe Acrobat 4.0 and the latest versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer.
